Joining in for the “Yarn Along” over at small things:
It was back to school this week – or in Lil One’s case the First Day Of School EVER! She was super excited for her first day, and gave me nice hollywood farewell blowing kisses as she walked away, and off she went. I of course did not have a card in the camera. This is the way things have gone the past couple of weeks. I am trying to accept it with grace, and patience. Fortunately Daddy took some cell phone shots too! (And that is another reason I love him so much – back up plans for back up plans.) So here she is, my Lil One ready to head off to school:
And then cheerfully heading up to class.
Yes, she had on her Hello Kitty gear coming and going!
I know. What about the yarn along? Well, the deal is, my knitting is a super secret unreleased pattern and colorway for Three Irish Girls, so I had to opt out on the photo of that. My reading… well, let’s just say I’ve plowed through so many class policies, forms, and calendars my head is spinning. Again, pretty un-photogenic. But not to worry, I do have a little back-to-school knitting to share instead. I had to make a special sweater to commemorate this milestone in a little life, and when I was done she was so cute in this cherry red tee, it got dubbed “Cherry Sweet“.
The pattern is from Alana Dakos, the child’s “Spring Garden Tee“. What a great little pattern. Easy, cute as can be, and well written. I can see why she’s gone on to do so well as a designer from these early beginnings. In a very rare occurrence, I made no modifications at all. I loved it just the way it was. My favorite detail was that cute little sleeve. It is just precious.
Lil One actually came with me one night to Knit New Haven to pick out yarn. She immediately grabbed a gorgeous skein of grape colored silk-wool sock yarn, but after a little debating, she agreed to let me show her the thicker yarns for a sweater. I pulled down a few colors of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino, which I absolutely love to knit with. She settled on cherry red in the end, and proudly carried the bag home to show Daddy her new yarn. “It’s going to be a sweater. Mommy’s going to knit it tomorrow for me.” I love the toddler sense of time. If only.
Well, a couple of weeks later, I did finish it up for her, and despite the warm weather, she happily played in it all afternoon that day. Yeah!
So, that’s what I’ve been up to. How ’bout you?
